Choosing the right frame shape

At Optical Images, we assist you in choosing the frames that best fit your face, and have endless options to choose from. When picking out frames you will want to try several pairs on and pick the ones that are right for you. A variety of factors contribute to choosing the appropriate frame to compliment your face.

Shape of your face:

There are so many different face shapes and the right frames need to be chosen for each individual one. Keep in mind that just because a frame looks good on a website, does not mean it is going to look good on you. Sorry!

  • SQUARE FACE: If your face has the same width and length, than you have a square face. Think Jessica Simpson or Demi Moore. Reading glasses with wider frames make your face appear to be longer. You can also try frames with accents on the outer edges.
  • ROUND FACES: Round faces have round foreheads and chins. They look cuter and younger. Think Drew Barymore and Cameron Diaz. Rectangular or angular frames that are on the wider side will make your face appear oval and long
  • OVAL FACES: (Which many people desire) have high cheekbones and soft jaw lines. Think Ashley Judd and Britney Spears. In order to maintain that lovely oval look, select a frame that will be as wide or just a little wider than your face. Also, keep reading glasses simple as accented frames may mar the perfect balance of your face.
  • OBLANG FACES: Think Celine Dione and Jennifer Love Hewitt. This type of face is not as wide as it is long and has elongated cheek lines. Select reading glasses with a low bridge to make your nose appear shorter, and accented temples to add width to your face.
  • DIAMOND FACES: If your cheek bones are prominent and they taper towards your forehead and your chin, you have a diamond shaped face. Think Madonna and Sofia Loren. Butterfly shaped frames, square frames or designer reading glasses with accented tops will give your face a well rounded appearance. Cat eye frames always look great on diamond shaped faces.
  • HEART FACES: A heart shaped face is high cheekbones and your face tapers towards your chin. Think Naomi Campbell and Mariah Carey. Rimless frames with the glass screwed to the temples are the best for your shape.

Color and Complexion:

Just like buying cosmetics, you have to know the correct color that goes along with your face. Some people are warmer toned like red or orange, while others are cool, like blue or lavender. Knowing your base color will help in choosing the right frames.

Frame Size:

Of course you don’t want a frame that is so huge it takes your entire face over! Eyeglasses and sunglasses should be the correct scale for your head size.

Frame Material:

There’s a variety of materials that are used to make up eyeglass and sun glass frames. This is very important since you will want frames that don’t feel too heavy or don’t cause a reaction to your skin. Nylon frames are great for children’s eyeglasses as it is hard to break them. If you want a more flexible frame than flexon frames may be one of your options. If you have lenses that weigh a lot than you may want to consider titanium frames, considering they are light-weight.
